Safe needling on the thorax

11 Feb 2020

An educational resource on safe needling on the thorax, preventing pneumothorax, is now available.

Pneumothorax is a relatively rare but serious adverse outcome of acupuncture.

The education resource was produced by Chinese Medicine Council of NSW (the Council) with assistance from the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (the Board). It was developed following a number of notifications received that related to pneumothorax incidents in recent years.

The educational resource includes a slide presentation and supplementary reading and is available from the presentations page of the Board website.

Board Chair Distinguished Professor Charlie Xue said the Board was pleased to assist the Council to develop this resource.

‘We strongly encourage all registered Chinese medicine practitioners and students to engage with the valuable and relevant information in the educational resource,’ Professor Xue said.
